LEO: The almost perfect masterpiece
Leo the most hyped Kollywood film of the year and a movie that’s been crushing the box office. Very soon to beat Jailer and PS2 the highest grossing South Indian films of the year. A major reason for this level of excitement apart from The main star being Thalapathy Vijay is the fact that it is part of the Lokesh Cinematic universe which is kollywood’s version of a cinematic universe. The other two films coming under the LCU are kaithi and Vikram which killed at the box office so people went wild when they found out that Vijay is going to make his entry to the LCU.
First impressions
The movie as such is a visual and cinematic treat for entertainment and thrill seekers. It’s got everything you would want from a Tamil film. Action, Family drama, suspense and of course a peppy song for vijay to show off his skills unfortunately like majority of Cinema it has its own flaws, but we can talk about those flaws later
Reasons to watch;
- If you are a fan of lokesh’s early works than you are sure to enjoy this one however this is not his best work but one of the better ones
- You enjoy suspense and action while keeping a theme of protection your family than this film is for you
- Vijay is at his prime when it comes to acting in Leo. You can see one of the best performances from Vijay for a while. This movie really brought out the skill of acting from Vijay. Not to mention his charismatic nature and his screen presence
- The casting is also phenomenal which makes each scene worth watching. You never feel bored looking at the screen no matter what the scene is because of the cast and their phenomenal performance. Special mention to Sanjay Dutt and Sandy master as both of them really adapted their roles and developed it on screen.
- Music Placements are a Vital part of every type of content. Which music and where they are played makes a Significant difference on the impact created by the scene. Every BGM creates a different feel and it’s up to the directed in how we watch the film, however Lokesh did a slightly bad job with the music placements in this film. Anirudh has made some fantastic tracks for this film and yet they seem absent in the movie and instead in the possible intention to imitate Hollywood different kind of BG scores were used. There were scenes which could have used much better scores that already existed. The famous ‘Bloody sweet’ track has been barely used in the entire film which was disappointing as that could have created a whole new level of impact for us
- Just like music Writing also plays an important role. The words used and the dialogues should always bring out the Essenes and mood of the scene however in second half the dialogues seemed slightly weak and bland compared to the intensity of the scene. Remember, these are just slight imperfections in the film and barely scratches the surface on us enjoying
- Climax conflict is the most pertinent conflict of the movie. We would enjoy the victory more when the hero struggles against all odds to win. The Harder the battle, the sweeter the victory. Leo’s climax had a lot of challenges faced by the hero on paper however the execution of the climax fight could have been better. To specify , one man beating 50 men is not impossible however it seemed almost too easy in Leo. It could have been done better if Bijay had a better and more creative weapon or his Son came to help him at some point
That's a great evaluation of the movie.
